MDBG uses a text-speech engine with Chinese voices. The Microsoft Simplified Chinese voice is included with every edition of Chinese Reader. Selected editions of Microsoft Windows 7 and Vista (Ultimate Editions and Chinese editions) include Microsoft Lili voice. Like other SAPI-based voices, no web connection is required.
Chinese Reader 6 Standard edition also supports
HanHan. Professional
edition includes HuiHui, HanHan
and Microsoft Simplified Chinese voice support.
Internet connection is required for these voices and
performance will be slightly slower than the SAPI voices
listed above.
MDBG Premium Voices provide high quality voices locally--no web connection is required.
By default, AutoPronounce is enabled; un-check to disable. Choose voices from the drop-down menu. Adjust the rate slider left to slow down the apparent pronunciation rate.
