Revision History
Version 6.6:
- Google Chrome 25 is supported
- Adobe PDF Reader XI is supported
- Chinese-English dictionary updated and expanded to over 105,000 entries
Version 6.5:
- New installer makes it easier to install Chinese Reader once for all the users on your computer (using just one license)
- Improved reliability with more systems
- Google Chrome 24 and Mozilla Firefox 17 are now supported
Version 6.4:
- Google Chrome 20 and Mozilla Firefox 14 are now supported
- Customize the operation of LiveScan and HighlightScan to improve interoperability with more applications. From the Settings dialog, turn on "Ctrl+Scan" so popup windows only appear when you hold down the Ctrl key
- Group bar is now hidden (by default) by may be enabled from Settings
- Help for Settings is now available; see http://mdbg.loqu8.com/settings.htm
- Close and save changes to Settings by clicking OK (or the X) button
Version 6.3:
- Tone numbers is now a selection in Settings
- Voice rate control for MDBG Premium Chinese Voices
- Chinese-German and Chinese-French translation dictionaries for Professional edition
Version 6.2
- WebTranslate (free)
- Google Translate service (optional)
Version 6.1:
- Streamlined update. Notification bubble will alert you to new updates that you may ignore or install at a future time. In addition, you may manually check for updates from the Main window: Help > Check for updates.
- Traditional first. In Lookup, Favorites and History views, enable this option to prioritize Traditional Chinese ahead of Simplified Chinese
- Minimize on start. Minimizes the main window when Chinese Reader starts. Use with "Auto-start" to have Chinese Reader available with LiveScan or HighlightScan.
- MLX Auto-translation with Google. Sorry, Google is now charging for this service. We are working to add support for this paid service.
- Add to Favorites. Right click to tag selected words and phrases as a favorite (similar to clicking on the star).
- Remove from Favorites. Right click to un-tag selected words as a favorite.
You need to restart your Chinese Reader or your computer after installing this free update.

1. Does the Chinese Reader 6 replace v5.5?
After installing CR v6, your existing copy of CR v5.5 will remain. You should use only one at a time; please don't try to run both CR 6 and CR 5 at the same time!
2. Why should I install CR v6?
If you've already upgraded your browser to Internet Explorer 9, Firefox 13 or Chrome 19, CR 6 is the first Chinese tool to support LiveScan in all of these new environments.

From any Chinese Reader window, click on the "wrench" icon to open the Settings dialog.
- Turn off auto-pronounce by un-checking Auto-Pronounce
Click X in the top right corner of the Settings dialog to close and save your changes. |
